In just a few days President Elect Obama will take the office which is set to become one of the biggest events this country has ever seen. Even though this is one of the greatest moments for this country there is unfortunately a lack of optimism due to this incredible financial crisis being left by the previous administration for the new president to deal with.
Obama has already said that one of his first acts as president will be to pass an economic stimulus package to help the failing economy get back on its feet. Many different groups are already starting to clamor to try and get a chunk of this money. The association of utilities that represents almost 70 percent of the nation’s power industries have joined forces with environmental groups to lobby congress for part of the money.
This group will be asking Congress to include $33 billion dollars in this stimulus package for state and local government programs that will help reduce wasteful energy practices. The programs include weatherizing government buildings to reduce the amount of energy wasted every year. It will also allow companies including los angeles air conditioning companies to install “smart meters” which will allow people to see exactly how much energy they are using and what it is costing them at any given time.
Experts agree that the reducing wasteful energy practices is not only the quickest way that this country can reduce the amount of energy that it uses it is also the cheapest and easiest to implement. It is a great way of reducing energy without making many sacrifices. There are already some states that have these incentives for example los angeles electric companies are allowed to have variable rates so that they will not lose money for selling less electricity, but these groups will be asking for the practices and laws to be nationally implemented.
